The Dreamtime

Australian Aboriginals and the Dreamtime. |
In the continental country of Australia, from the indigenous culture of the Aboriginals, is inherited a vast wealth of spiritual knowledge. Far from having a lineage of the quoted 60,000 years, it is suspected from literature and research that it stretches up to and beyond 150,000 years.
"They say we have been here for 60,000 years, but it is much longer. We have been here since the time before time began. We have come directly out of the Dreamtime of the Creative Ancestors. We have lived and kept the Earth as it was on the First Day". - Aboriginal Tribal Elder.
On a par with Jungian philosophy, that before a thing happens it is first dreamed, the ancient Aboriginals referred to creation being from the same Source, or in western terms perhaps - God. In this, they refer to the forces and powers that created the world as their Creative Ancestors. The Source may also be referred to in another way to being the non-dual unmanifest potential before the "big bang" of science. In the Dreaming, the Ancestors moved across a barren undifferentiated "field" and in doing so made a topographical landscape.
"All things were created by the Ancestors simultaneously, and each could transform into any of the others. A plant could become an animal, an animal a landform, a landform a man or a woman. An Ancestor could be both human and animal".
Hence the stories of the Dreamtime are about creation. http://www.dreamtime.net.au/creation/text.htm http://www.dreamtime.net.au/creation/index.cfm | http://www.dreamtime.net.au/dreaming/dreamtime.htm
"As the world took shape and was filled with the species and varieties of the ancestral transformations, the Ancestors wearied and retired into the Earth, the Sky, the Clouds, and the creatures, to reverberate like a potency within all that they had created".
"The great ancestral beings were vast, unbounded, intangible, vibratory bodies, similar to fields of energy. They created by drawing vibratory energy out of themselves and stabilising this energy and by specifying or naming - the inner name is the potency of the form or creature. The comparable image is the creation of sounds, words, or songs from the vibration of breath. Aboriginals refer to the dreamtime creation as the world being "sung" into existence." - VFD.
Hence also, we are all one with the creator, and the source is within everything, unity in diversity, the non-dual within the dual.
For perhaps 150,000 years, the Dreamtime mythology stories sustained the Aboriginal culture that lived in harmony with the Earth and nature and was full of vigor, vitality, and joyousness.
Far from the Roman Catholic view that "the plants and animals are given to man for his well-being and benefit", this cuture saw that they were intinsically part of themselves, not to be exploited, but to exist in co-harmony with respect. they saw not separateness, but a unity in all they beheld.
In my own experience in reading "Voices of the First Day" by Robert Lawlor, the particular book seemed to have a spirit of the ancient people that cried out to me in intense emotion that the white man had come to distort and destroy all that was sacred in truth to them. I was distraught for a period of time as this emotion washed through me with all its anguish and suffering.
A particular woman elder (Lorraine Mafi-Williams - since passed on) who used to talk to me while I was living in the Byron Bay area of Northern New South Wales, remarked that her great elders had foreseen the coming of white people, and the implications, and hid all the sacred knowledge. It is only at this stage in history that it is being brought out again selectively to the planet. On mentioning about dreaming in general, (not Dreamtime stories), she declined to comment as this was "men's business". It is noteworthy that the ancients had roles to men and women, the former to aspects of Sky, and the latter to Earth. On relating a particular Aboriginal dream to her that I experienced, she appeared to loosen up somewhat in that she recognised one of her ancestors and the dance within it, and came to bless the land where I worked for a community and tell us of the local plants.
I also was told a story about the Darwin cyclone, relatively recent in this context of this article. There were two men elders that were local in that area went about telling others of the local tribes to leave, that there was danger about to happen in the city. They then told all the white people that they had connections with, to get out quickly. Most of the latter ignored or laughed at them and their warnings. They were seen by others of the tribe to both enter a corrugated tin shed, and shortly after all hell broke loose as the cyclone hit, and consequently devastated the city. After the end of the events, the two elders were seen to leave the shed, which was still standing.
These people (those still alive and tuned into the old ways) have knowledge of millennia at their call. It is of note that at least some western weather forcasters are alligning themselves with this knowledge and working with the elders, who realise many more weather seasons than just our Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter.
There is also the story of the television station crew who got a whiff of a story on a vast storage of water underground in a certain part of Australia. They contacted some locals who narrowed down their search, and then were told by local Aboriginal elders that they should not venture near it at all, as it was sacred. They arrogantly defied this warning and proceeded to come to an entrance which led underground and were met by a hugh black snake at the mouth which was aggressive at their approach. They nevertheless managed to go past the snake eventually and took all their equipment underground through the entrance to film what was there. After they were in, a massive storm front came up and deluged the land with water, great amounts of it ending up down the entrance of this place. The television crew were nearly killed by drowning in the flash flood, lost all of their equipment, barely making it back to the surface. They did not venture back, their experience of that spirit of the land not to their liking.
The wandering tribes used to rely upon the "shamans" to tell them what direction to travel in order to get food and water. At a young age, specially gifted males were selected for special training, often undergoing intense pain and suffering with initiation into the secret ways. Quartz crystal stones were embedded to their bodies so that they were permanent and attached to major meridian chakra points. This would enhance their sensitivities so that they were able to help members of the tribe in sickness etc. It is said that these men would be conversant with the other levels (astral etc) and be able to see where the tribe should go and be doing. In travelling to a new area of habitation, they would ritually dance so that the spirit of place would unite through their bodies and into the Earth, connected to the Sky. The land as such demanded huge respect and awe.
